Female body

New soapbox . . . why can’t the female gender be potty trained for more than about 10 years of her life?!

Let’s be honest ladies. We are potty trained by our parents anywhere from 1-3 years of age right? We feel like we are doing pretty well. We become rock stars at putting our big girl pants on. Then, low and behold, SURPRISE!

You have now entered the world of unexpectedly waking up in a dead panic and run like a bat out of hell to the restroom. You have just been visited by the fairy of doom.

Next, you have 9 months of a break from the fairy, while you are carrying your lovely child. But wait, you are now never, ever certain when and if you should sneeze. Don’t worry, crossing your legs will become all but second nature to you eventually.

Just when you think that you have mastered the art of not needing a special rinse on your “delicates”, you are surprised to find out that you have now hit the age where you no longer have the ability to care anymore.

Welcome to womanhood ladies, welcome to womanhood.

Get involved!

I just attended a community meeting with my husband tonight.  Minutes before that meeting, I attended a PTO meeting (Parent Teacher Organization).  In both meetings, I was shocked and appalled at the lack of support that was shown in my little community. This ignited my new soapbox.  I am tired of hearing that people don’t like the school programs and curriculum's; you don’t get to complain, you didn’t voice your opinion in the proper forum. I am tired of hearing political disputes; you didn’t vote. I am tired of hearing that you don’t agree with the school boards decisions; you didn’t go to the meeting.

Don’t get me wrong, being involved takes time and energy. I know that it is out of many people’s comfort zones, but I also know that your opinion matters.  I am loaded with opinions; always have been, always will be.  In no way am I telling you what your opinions or beliefs should be.  The world would be a boring place if you all believed exactly like me. But how am I to understand your point of view if you don’t come to the right forums to express those beliefs.

The school that my daughter attends has over 600 kids in the school. The PTO meeting that I attended tonight was attended by a whole of 3 parents.  The agenda of the meeting was on the security, or lack thereof. You cannot tell me that only 3 parents out of all of the parents have opinions on this matter, but I will tell you that 3 were the only ones that weighed in and made decisions.

In my opinion, the lack of participation in my little community is in direct correlation with the amount of selfishness.  No, it doesn’t look like that in your mirror. It looks like you are busy… but busy with things that will affect you, but few others.
Next time you start to complain about ANYTHING, think to yourself, have I done or am I willing to do something to change the outcome.

This is me

You might already know me, but let me explain Who I am.  I am an overworked, underpaid, overweight, emotional, perfection driven woman. That being said, I am also, a happy, passionate, trustworthy, dependable, and dedicated wife and mother.

I was just recently told, by a close male friend of mine, that he is tired of doing all of the physical related services in our area, while the women stay at home and make food for the family. It is true. . . I my very conservative community, we have embraced the traditional roles of men and women.  I am proud of that though.

I am not a sheltered demure individual. My favorite saying is, “If you want my opinion, and I don’t have one right now, give me five minutes and I will”.  I have been taught to be a hard worker. I will and can work alongside just about any man (with the exception of my dad, he’s the hardest worker I know). I rip down walls, build new ones, know how to empty a clogged drain, can and have assisted in removing old shingles from a roof, and I enjoy it, but I am happy to be in the kitchen cooking a meal for a neighbor family, or cleaning the home of a grieving family more.

Let me explain. My God given role is to be a nurture, (not to be confused with a coddler, which I will discuss in a later post).  I make you a meal, because I know that sitting at a table with a home cooked meal on the table, helps a family reconnect. I make you dinner, because I know that food is soothing to the soul. I make you dinner, because that is my way of saying I love you and I am there for you.  I clean your house, because I know that you can more clearly hear the promptings of our Heavenly Father when you have a clean home.  I know that to have a clear head, you have to have a clear surface. I also clean your house because you are not going to want to clean up after being sick.

So yes, friend of mine, I do often make dinners or clean houses. I do it because I know that a dinner means more sometimes than a wall ripped out.  I do it because I know that a clean house heals quicker than refrigerators being moved. I do it because I have chosen to serve, no matter what capacity, no matter the brute strength.
